El "arte" de los abortos

Esta noticia es de las que me hace reflexionar sobre la bondad del ser humano. Que alguien llegua a tomarse abortivos para filmar el aborto y considerar eso arte, es algo que no cabe en mi cabeza. Puedo entender que una violada aborte (para mí el supuesto más difícil moral o éticamente hablando, a pesar de que defiendo la vida del no nacido porque no ha tenido ninguna culpa de la violación, la mujer tampoco aclaro, por si a alguien se le cruzan los cables). Pero ¿provocarse abortos y hacer exposiciones con los vídeos?

"Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself 'as often as possible' while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process."

(...) Shvarts insists her concept was not designed for "shock value."

"I hope it inspires some sort of discourse," Shvarts said. "Sure, some people will be upset with the message and will not agree with it, but it's not the intention of the piece to scandalize anyone."

So ehhh, the intention of the piece is ¿?, because I just can't understand what its intentio is... Really.

But, in the end, it's all a lie:

She is an artist and has the right to express herself through performance art.

Had these acts been real, they would have violated basic ethical standards and raised serious mental and physical health concerns.

Which cannot be raised now?? Someone to obtain popularity, lies saying she has first took abortifacient drugs to induce herself miscarriages is sane?? I mean, can't she raise questions about the ambiguity surrounding form and function of a woman’s body in other manner?? If she is an artist, she must be creative, but this is hardly the way I would have used to promote an exhibition of really bad taste .

Yale's University is not happy with the affair: it has launched an investigation of it.

"El próximo jueves, Shvarts expondrá su proyecto maduro de arte, con una documentación que le ha llevado un proceso de nueve meses, durante los cuales se ha inseminado artificialmente "tan a menudo como era posible" mientras que tomaba drogas abortivas para producirse abortos. Su exposición consta de una serie de grabaciones de vídeo así como de una colección de muestras de sangre conservadas de cada uno de esos abortos.

Shvarts insiste en que su concepto (de arte) no fue designado para producir "shocks".

"Espero que inspire alguna especie de discurso," dijo Shvarts. "Seguro que algunos estarán tristes con el mensaje y no estarán de acuerdo con él, pero la intención de la exhibición no es escandalizar a nadie."

Vale, entonces, el mensaje es... ¿? Porque a mí, si debo tomarlo como arte, me parece de un mal gusto insoportable.

Pero es que hay más, resulta que todo lo que ha dicho es una mentira: sí, existen los vídeos y las muestras de sangre pero ninguna procede de abortos autoinducidos. No ha sido más que una forma de promocionar la exposición que la Universidad de Yale ha defendido por considerar que es una manera de "llamar la atención sobre la ambigüedad que rodea la forma y las funciones del cuerpo femenino". Y digo yo, ¿no había otras formas? Porque esto da asco e insulta al espectador: primero, por la forma de tratar el tema, segundo, por la publicidad, engañosa y asquerosa, sólo inducida por una manía de querer llamar la atención. Insisto: si se es artista, se debe ser creativo, ¿por qué no se intentó suscitar el debate con otro tipo de exposición?

Parece que la Universidad no está muy contenta con la publicidad que ha obtenido y ha iniciado una investigación profunda sobre los hechos...
