Unión Europea: La Corte de Auditores vuelve por 14º año, a no aprobar las Cuentas

Me entero por el blogger inglés Iain Dale:

For the 14th year in a row the Court of Auditors has failed to approve the European Union's accounts. I suppose no one will be very surprised by this, but it really is an absolute scandal. Perhaps if one of the major net contributors to the EU threatened to withhold its cash unless the EU puts its house in order, something might change. Or then again, perhaps not. The European Parliament can huff and puff but it seems incapable to getting the Commission to take the necessary action.

Es interesante la poca información que hay sobre esto. De hecho sólo he encontrado una noticia en EUBusiness en la que se dice que, aunque no dan su visto bueno, esta vez están mejor que las anteriores:

"The 2007 annual accounts of the European Communities give a fair presentation, in all material respects, of the financial position" of the EU, said Vitor Caldeira, the president of the European Court of Auditors.
In what had become an annual tradition, for the previous 13 years the auditors had refused to sign off on the EU's annual accounts, judging that too much money simply could not be accounted for.
While the 2007 verdict marked the first time the overall accounts have been endorsed since current accounting rules were adopted, the court of auditors did not give an entirely clean bill of health to the EU's book-keeping.
In particular, the court voiced reservations about spending of EU money on agriculture, natural resources, research, energy, transport, foreign aid and aid to poor EU regions and education.

Atención a todo aquello sobre lo que han emitido reservas: agricultura, recursos naturales, energía, transporte, ayuda exterior y ayuda a las regiones pobres de la UE así como educación. ¿Algo sobre lo que no hayan emitido reservas? Sí, en particular la burocracia de la Unión Europea.

Eso sí, me gustaría saber cómo, sin poner orden a las finanzas internas de la Unión, se proponen establecer nuevas fronteras, además costosas. La nueva: la Comunidad Europea de Defensa, que había sido abandonada pero vuelve de nuevo a aparecer:

So far, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Spain have signed on to the initiative, which will be implemented by the European Defence Agency.

Zapatero ha firmado una colaboración de defensa para establecer un escuadrón aéreo conjunto de defensa y nosotros sin saberlo... Y ¿sabéis cuál es el supuesto objeto del mismo? Según ellos, son las operaciones en el exterior como Afganistán, África o en el Oriente Medio. Pero como bien dice EU Referendum, ¿para qué se necesita un escuadrón conjunto aéreo europeo si ya hay operaciones que se realizan de manera conjunta? Porque no se trata de una necesidad militar, si no de unificación europea.

Todo hecho con la opacidad que caracteriza a la Unión Europea.
