China consigue que EEUU apoye su postura al respecto de Taiwan

Si el otro día escribía sobre la posibilidad de que China invadiera Corea del Norte para protegerse contra una avalancha de refugiados armados y para "proteger" las armas nucleares norcoreanas, hoy Epaminondas escribe que además ha conseguido que EEUU le apoye respecto de Taiwan:

Further indications of the Bush administration’s shift in policy in favor of Beijing and away from Taiwan were disclosed in Beijing last week during the strategic dialogue meeting headed by Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte.

Negroponte was quoted as saying that Taiwan’s planned referendum on joining the United Nations as a “Taiwan,” instead of its formal name, the Republic of China, would be a mistake.

"The United States thinks it certainly would have been preferable not to have such a 'referendum,'" Negroponte said.

The comment followed Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s remark in December that the referendum was a “provocative” move by Taiwan’s pro-independence government.

Negroponte dijo que el referendum que planea Taiwan sobre entrar en la ONU como Taiwan, en lugar de su nombre formal, la República de China, sería un error. "Los EEUU piensan que ciertamente sería preferible que no tuviera lugar este referendum".
Estos comentarios continúan la línea iniciada por la Secretaria de Estado Condoleeza Rice en diciembre diciendo que era un "movimiento provocativo" por parte del Gobierno pro-independencia de Taiwan.

Pero no sólo eso: Keating, el comandante de las Fuerzas EEUU en el Pacífico va a la Academia de Ciencias de Pekín y dice a los que iban a escucharles:

Adm. Timothy Keating, commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific, sought to befriend a Chinese military that views the United States as its main enemy and the most immediate threat to its territorial claims to Taiwan.

During his visit to China, Keating spoke to military officers at the Academy of Military Sciences and was introduced by Lt. Gen. Liu Chengjun, its president, who said: “As an old Chinese saying goes, 'strangers the first time, friends the second time, and old friends the third time'...."

Como dice un antiguo dicho chino: "extraños la primera vez, amigos la siguiente, y viejos amigos la tercera". Y se refirió a un general chino como un "potencial colega".

Maravilloso. Yo tengo otro español: "Narices perderás y aún dientes si te dejas besar de ciertas gentes".
