Ya puede descargarse Picasa para Mac

Así lo leo en Google Blog:

today, we're releasing Picasa for Mac. While we've previously offered both a standalone Picasa Web Albums uploader and an iPhoto plugin for Mac users, Picasa for Mac finally brings all of the advanced sharing and sync features of Picasa to the millions of Mac OS X users who use Picasa Web Albums. Not to mention the "it-slices-and-dices" feature list that covers everything from color balance to collages.

El iPhoto que viene con el Mac es bueno, pero me gusta más el Picasa, porque la sincronización es mucho mejor y además ya estoy acostumbrada a usarlo en Windows, así que me parece una excelente noticia.

Malas noticias para el software libre / Bad news for free software

 

La Unión Europea y Microsoft obligarán al software libre a pagar para interoperar con Windows El acuerdo de la Unión Europea con Microsoft supone un peligro para la creciente economía del software libre, según la Asociación para una Infraestructura Informática Libre (FFII). Las empresas como IBM o RedHat y los proyectos de software libre deberán pagar por la información de interoperabilidad con los sistemas de Microsoft.

Esperemos que Microsoft no haga pagar también por usar Facebook, después de haber adquirido el 1,6% de la empresa.

Basically, Microsoft and the European Union are going to make the free software pay for the interoperability with Windows. These are really bad news, for a growing industry, according to the Association for a Free Computer Infraestructure.
I hope Microsoft is not going to makes us pay for using Facebook (even if I do not use it very much…), after having bought 1.6% of the firm…

Probando UBUNTU LINUX

Como ya he dicho en el otro blog, acabo de instalar Wubi, la nueva forma de probar Linux en un PC. Wubi instala Linux en un PC, sin que tengas que hacer una partición y pudiendo después desinistalarlo desde Windows como si fuera cualquier otro programa.
El programa instala además otros necesarios, como OpenOffice, Firefox y Evolution mail, así como juegos -que yo no necesito...-, reproductor de música, vídeos y DVD.
Linux, además queda protegido por contraseña, y desde él, se puede acceder a la parte "Windows" del disco duro.

Brief extension for Firefox

I have been looking for a Firefox's extension to receive RSS. I knew both Sage and Wizz but I did not like any of them. Yesterday, I found a reasonable one: it's called Brief, and can be used with the new Firefox 2.0.

Brief is an extension for Firefox which makes reading feeds as easy as it gets. It is designed to have the right set of features to be both powerful and simple. Brief stores feeds' content in a database and displays articles in a form of a sleek, interactive page.

Easily mark articles as read and star the interesting ones. Browse your feeds anyway you want - view only unread or starred articles, display a single feed or a whole folder at a time. Find what you are looking for using full text search-as-you-type. Let yourself be notified when feeds are updated in the background and track the number of new entries using the status bar.

If you use Firefox, you can give it a try.

Por fin he encontrado un add-on de Mozilla para ver los RSS que merece la pena. Con él puedes marcar como importantes las noticias que te gusten -cosa que en Sage, por ejemplo, no se puede- y los resultados de la búsqueda aparecen al mismo tiempo que escribes.

Windows Live Mail

I have been using Windows Live Mail for some time now. Considered the heir of Outlook for Vista OS, it can also be downloaded for XP OS.

It looks good and it works OK. You can download your POP and IMAP accounts and also it has a reasonable RSS reader.

I only see an inconvenient: you must have a hotmail / msn account. If not you cannot use it.

Posting with Zoundry in Blogger

The problem with the new Blogger is that most of the blogging clients do not recognise the Google Accounts. But Zoundry does. This post is only to see if the post, once sent over to the blog, looks good.

(And they have added a button to justify the posts, that was what I thought was missing...).
