Cowboy

As I wrote yesterday for international blogs, one of the things which are not really considered is that one of the main condemned is Trashorras, a schizophrenic, as a needed cooperator, which is considered by Spanish law as an author. Something very rare indeed.

7 Are Acquitted in Madrid Bombings @ NYT

By VICTORIA BURNETT
Three men were found guilty of murder and 18 others were convicted of lesser charges, but none of the accused ringleaders of the attack were convicted.

Family members of victims of the 2004 Madrid train bombings say they are disappointed after a Spanish court handed maximum jail terms to just three main defendants. @ DW.

BBC:

Angry victims of the 2004 Madrid train bombings have vowed to appeal over what they see as the trial court's lenient treatment of some of the accused.

One victim's relative said there had been too few guilty verdicts for a crime which claimed nearly 200 lives.

The court sentenced three men to thousands of years in jail, but acquitted seven of the 28 defendants, including the alleged mastermind.

Spanish PM Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said justice had been done.

But the opposition party said many questions remained unanswered.

[...]  [There are] certain details of these atrocious attacks we still think that are unknown," its foreign affairs spokesman Gustavo de Aristegui told the BBC.

"We still don't know who gave the order, we still don't know who built those bombs, and we still don't know who was the co-ordinator of these cells that carried out these attacks."

Attention:

Investigators say the accused were part of a local Islamist militant group inspired by al-Qaeda, but had no direct links to that organisation.

They had acted to avenge the presence of Spanish troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, said investigators. Surprise

AND AFGHANISTAN!!! So, why are we there now, Mr. Z???

Madrid bombings: Was Justice done? @ TIME

Spain's National Court issued its verdict in the March 11, 2004 Madrid bombing case on Wednesday, convicting 21 of 28 suspects, and offering substantial indemnifications to the victims. The sentence also appeared to dismiss suggestions, long posed by Spanish political conservatives still smarting from Socialist Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero's unexpected election three years earlier, that the Basque separatist group ETA was somehow involved in the attacks, which killed 191 people and injured nearly 2000 more. But just because lead judge Javier Gómez Bermudez was firm in saying that ETA had nothing to do with the plot, it doesn't mean the Basque group's influence was totally absent from the ruling.

Mixed verdict in Madrid trains bombings trial unsettles Spain @ IHT.

[Some victims and relatives of those killed in the bombings questioned why no one had been convicted of plotting the attacks and said the sentences imposed on the guilty were too short, Reuters reported. Isabel Presa, who lost her youngest son in one of the explosions, shook as she spoke of her disgust. "I'm not a judge or a lawyer, but this is shameful, outrageous," she said before breaking down in tears.]

Madrid's March 11 bombings: Case Wide Closed @ Pajamas Media.

In a stinging rebuff to the prosecution, the judges made it clear that the organizer, instigator, Mr. Big, the figure known in Spanish jurisprudence as the autor intelectual of the crime, could not be established. Why is this such a big deal? Because the law says there has to be one. A case is not closed until the courts have determined the person or persons vested with ultimate responsibility for the crime’s commission, as opposed to a mere perpetrator, or autor material.

So as you see, whatever Z and Llamis said here, there is not the same "certainty" among the international MSM.
